MSDS-Europe – Safety Data Sheet Services – Safety Data Sheet Review and Update

The mere existence of a safety data sheet is not enough; it must also be up to date.
As part of our safety data sheet update and review service, we prepare an SDS that is professionally correct and fully compliant with the legal requirements in force at the time of the review.
During the SDS review, we take into account all relevant requirements, including Article 31 of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH), Commission Regulation (EU) 2020/878, Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, as well as the national rules applicable at the place of use of the product.
We undertake SDS updating in any official language of the EEA, and if necessary we can also assist with translation into additional target languages.

A safety data sheet needs to be updated when the existing SDS no longer provides adequate, up-to-date and legislation-following information for the safe handling, use, storage, transport or placing on the market of the product.
Typical cases:
Not sure whether you need a safety data sheet update?
If there is no usable safety data sheet for the product, or the available documentation is not suitable as a basis for preparing a properly up-to-date SDS, then safety data sheet compilation and creation is the appropriate service.
If you wish to place the chemical product on the market in a new target country as well, you need our safety data sheet translation service.
During the review and update, we check and modify, among other things, the following:
If the update is based on a newer supplier SDS in a foreign language, we incorporate the new information contained therein into the reviewed document, and we also correct earlier translation inaccuracies.
This is what distinguishes a genuine SDS review from a formal update. We do not simply carry over the fact of the changes; we also verify that after the modifications the entire document remains professionally correct, legislation-following and free from internal contradictions.
If you would like to understand better what the content and structure requirements of an SDS are, we recommend our summary on the content and format elements of a safety data sheet.
We do not simply enter new data into an outdated safety data sheet; we prepare an up-to-date SDS that complies with the modified information and the requirements in force.
The result of the service is a safety data sheet that:
Legislation-following SDS
Updated according to the applicable requirements.
Professionally reviewed
Not only modified, but fully reviewed.
Logically consistent
Content aligned across all 16 sections
Reusable basis
For other chemical safety tasks
By updating the safety data sheet, we align the document with the requirements in force at the time of the review.
With our SDS Control Service, we help prevent the updated data sheet from later becoming affected again by a legislative change without you becoming aware of it in time.
For 12 months, we monitor whether any legislative change occurs that affects the content of the specific SDS, and we send a notification about the necessary actions.
In addition to the services of the Indicator Package, we update the affected SDS free of charge if the change concerns the classification of a component, the occupational exposure limit values, the UN number, the waste code or the SVHC status.
This package provides the widest scope of protection. In addition to the benefits of the Indicator and Catalyst Packages, we also update the affected SDS free of charge in the event of a general legislative change that creates an update obligation for all safety data sheets due to a change to Annex II of REACH.
Depending on the package selected, we guarantee that the safety data sheet updated by us will also comply with the relevant legislation during the following 12 months.
You may also request the update together with an SDS Control package.
The review is based on the existing documentation and on any new information that may affect the content of the safety data sheet.
For an SDS update, we typically need the following:
Optionally:
The scope of the data required for the SDS update is set out in our service-specific order form, which we send after our quotation has been accepted. Our Customer Service provides assistance in completing the order form.
As a first step, we review whether an update is indeed necessary on the basis of the available documentation.
We examine the existing SDS and the documents serving as the basis for the update. We identify outdated, incorrect, incomplete or contradictory parts.
We check the classification, component data, H-statements, P statements, exposure limit values, transport data, legal references and the document’s complete internal logic, and then we introduce the necessary modifications.
At our company, the updated SDS is never released without control. We deliver it only after multi-level internal review so that the completed document is professionally correct, consistent and defensible.
When delivering the updated document, we also help you understand what further tasks may arise, for example from the perspective of labelling, PCN notification or partner communication. If you would like to read more about the process, we recommend our article on the workflow for the creation and translation of safety data sheets.
Do you need the safety data sheet urgently?
Safety data sheet review and update can also be ordered with a rapid 72-hour deadline.

A safety data sheet must be updated when new relevant information about the product becomes known, when the regulatory environment changes, when the classification changes, or when the document no longer complies with the applicable requirements for another reason. You can read more about this in our article on the validity period of a safety data sheet.
We incorporate the information contained in the new document into the data sheet to be updated, but we do not adopt it mechanically: we review it professionally and adapt it to the requirements of the target country.
We undertake SDS review and update in any official EU language, and if necessary we also translate the SDS into additional target languages as a separate service and correct its content according to the legislation of the target country.
Under normal conditions, the completion deadline is specified in the quotation. In urgent cases, a rapid 72-hour deadline is also available.
According to the applicable legal obligations, the updated safety data sheet must be sent to those customers or downstream users who have been supplied with the product during the previous 12 months. You can also read separately about this in our article on the conditions under which a safety data sheet must be supplied.
Contact us, and from your existing SDS we will prepare a professionally reviewed, up-to-date, legislation-following document.
