GHS / CLP

The CLP regulation is the new European regulation about the classification, labeling and the packaging of the chemicals.

The regulation introduces a new classification and labeling of chemicals withing the territory of the EU, which new system is based on the harmonized system of the UN  (UN GHS).

The CLP is about the hazards of the chemicals, and about the information flow.

The task of the industry is to indentify the hazards of the chemicals and classify them before they place on the market for the first time.

If a substance or mixture is hazardous, it has to be supplied with label to inform the employees and consumers about the possible hazards and effects of the product before the first use of the chemicals.

The regulation is obligatory in the Member States. It has to be applied in the relevant industry directly.

Warning!

On 1st December 2010, the following regulations will enter into force:

  • The substances have to be labelled and packaged according to the CLP regulation, but the products which have already classified, labelled and packaged according to DSD and which are already on the market (they are „on the shelves”) can be sold till 1st December 2012.
